Welfare state policies and far right party support: moderating ‘insecurity effects' among different social groups

This article examines the interplay between social risks, welfare state policies and far right voting. Distinguishing compensatory protective using data from seven waves of European Social Survey (ESS) policy datasets, tests a range hypotheses about extent to which moderate insecurities that drive particular groups vote for right. Empirical findings confirm theoretical expectations several reduce likelihood supporting among individuals exposed high risks including unemployed, pensioners, low-income workers, employees on temporary contracts, in large families, who are disabled/permanently sick. These suggest order understand why some right, one should not only focus their risk-driven grievances, but also may these risks.
